OK, so as most of you guys know, I’ve been training a looooooong time. Decades, in fact. And in that time I’ve seen every fad you can imagine. And what I’ve learned is that I always come back to the things that ACTUALLY WORK. That means strength training barbells, dumbbells, chin ups, sprints, a sensible, natural diet. If you want to be strong, muscular, lean and healthy, that’s all you need…. so when I heard all the “buzz” surrounding Fat Gripz. I thought “here we go again… blah blah blah…… another gimmick.”

Now, I must admit that the health and fitness industry must have left me a little jaded so I didn’t even research them. I dismissed them completely…. until one of my training partners, Dave, brought some with him to one of our training sessions.

Dave is a BIG, STRONG mofo… so I was a little surprised to see him carrying a new training tool. He’s like me – he sticks to what works.

When I questioned him about Fat Gripz and gave him the “seriously???” look he replied “just try them”.

So, he snapped the Fat Gripz onto the bar and we started to warm up for bench.

Now, I don’t often say things like this but I was VERY impressed right from the get-go. These things are SOLID and really felt great as we moved up through the weights.

Having a thick grip on the bar is a totally different feel. You really have to concentrate on technique and squeeze the bar. Plus I felt less stress on my joints.

Well, I ended up setting a new bench PR that day J and after a few sets more hands and forearms were FRIED. I don’t think I’ve ever had a pump in my hands before. Cool feeling.

At this point a word of caution: When you start using Fat Gripz, just use them on 1 or 2 exercises the first time you use them. On my first time I trained bench, shoulders and dumbbell rows. That was a mistake. It was painful to type on my laptop for about 3 days after wards J

So anyway, that was around 11 or 12 weeks ago and I have set new PRs on my bench, pull ups and deadlifts since I started using Fat Gripz. At my age and after all these years of training that is a big deal. My forearms and upper arms are also quite noticeably thicker. Don’t ask me why they make your biceps and triceps bigger – they just do. Dave has gotten similar gains.

If there is a downside to Fat Gripz, its that you may need to lower the weights on certain exercises (mainly “pulling” exercises) at first until your hand and forearm strength catches up. Don’t worry though, it will be worth it.

To sum up: I fully recommend Fat Gripz. Never thought I’d say this but they are the best addition to my training in the last 10 years. They may seem a little pricey at $39 but that’s actually cheaper than a can of whatever bullshit protein powder you’re wasting your money on J lol….. and Fat Gripz will probably last forever (they are very well made).
